25 Shot Shootout Summary

This year marked our first of hopefully many 25 Shot Shootout hunting contests. We were informed last summer that we had to change the name of our One Box Challenge because we were infringing on the rights of the group from Broken Bow. That being the case we are starting a whole new contest. The principle is unchanged; each team has about three hours to hunt an 80 acre field, which has been stocked with about 50 birds. Each team has only 25 shells to hunt with.
March 11 & 12 was the date of this years contest. The weather was beautiful Saturday, although it was quite dry. Sunday the weather cooled off and the drizzle started, I actually saw a shotgun with a layer of ice on it. Regardless of the weather hunting in March is a good thing. Over the weekend over 1150 birds were bagged and 51 banded birds were checked in. A raffle ticket is awarded for every hen pheasant that is checked in, hens are the lowest point value bird. This year the raffle winner drawn from 565 tickets received a Ruger Red Label 12 gauge over & under shotgun. The winner was Spencer Shifflet from Palisade.
This years winner was Team Bunkerhill comprised of: Mike Douglass, Jon Stofer, Shannen Rocole, John Hoffman, and Tim Brewster. They had a score of 237, thirty eight points better than the second place team.
